Susan C Turner

Writer and Illustrator

About

Born in NY and raised in Miami, Turner’s recent work concentrates on adult fiction in the crime/mystery arena. She prefers to set these  narratives in the pre- and post-war periods of the 1930’s and 1940’s.   She is the author of two series: the Harry Douglas International Mystery Series and the Rufus Steele Adventure series. The third book in the Rufus Steele series, co-authored with Warren W. Teets (World War II veteran), Rufus Steele 1943 was a finalist for the 2012 ForeWord Book of the Year in the Juvenile Fiction category.

Turner is also noted for her portrayal of the lives of young people, the challenges they face in growing up, and the decisions they must make in becoming who they are. One of her books, Small Black Boxes, a tribute to the men and women who have died in service to our country, and most particularly to the families they leave behind, was highly rated by readers and book critic Kirkus Discoveries.

Turner is well known for her delightful picture books, including Benjamin Barley’s Button and Radishes and Noodles, both of which she wrote and illustrated. Under the name Eve Palmer, she retells and illustrates a series of ancient folk tales, the first of which is entitled The King’s Flowers.

Turner is a sought-after speaker at schools, libraries, and museums.

She lives and writes in Florida with her husband, John, and precocious cat, Duffy. She is a member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and The Royal Society of Literature.

Turner’s books are available in print and eBook formats.
